Yeah, so the sound is pretty rough here, but it kind of has a 'ghostly, haunting' quality to it, similar to Dylan & the Band's 'Basement Tapes,' which makes it KINDA cool, but that's a stretch. I'd agree with others here, probably not worth downloading, but worth a listen to for a different approach to the Dead sound.

Please see my notes for 10-24. I have better aud. masters of both nights, although I'm still searching for the last hour of the 23rd. This show clocks in at nearly 4 hours, due in part to the amount of time the band spends talking to the aud. in this intimate enviroment. My third hour cuts 20 minutes into "Dark Star". The sbd's for most of this tour were reportedly ripped off from the sbd. area further into the tour. The 1 hour sbd. segment for the 24th was from Phil's monitor mix, according to one of the Dead's archive assistants. This was used by Ganz on one of his shows, and a slightly stepped on version is available here. My aud. copy is complete, and I will try to upload these when I figure out how. I did provide a complete set list for the 24th, which had previously been unknown.
*** 2-12-09***
The 24th should be posting in the very near future, and hopefully the first 3 hours of this show will be next. The Playin' which is complete on the upcoming 23rd version is 20 min. Both nights versions are not to be missed, the versions starting in the previous few months are the beginning of the deep exploration of this tune, and they take you to some great places.( I think they first broke the 20 min mark 8-27-72) The 24th times out at about 25 min.

Subject: Very low quality sound.
Subject: Very low quality sound.
The sound on this recording is horrible, even for an AUD, and even for '72--much as the textfile indicates. Not worth the time to download, and certainly not a keeper IMHO. On the bright side, the Taper's Compendium indicates there is an "A" quality AUD for this show in circulation, so hopefully someone out there can upload a better source.
Revised: OK, for Dark Star freaks the 28-minute Dark Star is definitely worth checking out, and repays the effort it takes to adjust your head to the sound quality.

Very muddy sound. No separation of instruments. Fades and just hard 2 handle.

Ok, so it's a flawed show sonically. No matter it's my birthday show. Who else among us was born under a darkstar? Please respond :)
